Hair removal during pregnancy
September 14, 2007

Many pregnant women start thinking about hair removal for a couple of reasons. Your hormones may cause hair growth in places previously hairless, such as your belly, face or nipples. As your belly grows, the ole’ tried-and-true method of shaving your legs can become quite difficult.
According to the American Pregnancy Association, here are some de-fuzzing safety facts to keep in mind:
Electrolysis: Avoid during pregnancy–no studies have been done to validate safety.
Laser: Avoid—no studies on the effect of the fetus.
Waxing: Maybe–your skin may be more sensitive and react more strongly. Check with your doctor first.
Creams and Depilatories: Maybe–the active ingredients have not been shown to be harmful during pregnancy, but they also have not been proven safe. I would err on the side of caution and avoid.
Shaving: Safe! The only danger here is falling while trying to negotiate around your belly. Try sitting on a shower chair or large ledge when shaving.
Got something to say?
