The best hair styles for pregnant women
March 9, 2009
Now that you are pregnant, you want a hairstyle that will flatter your new curvy body. Find out what hair styles will look best and what to avoid during this exciting time.

Let’s face it — we want a hair style that is slimming. Stylish Shellye Bolton told SheKnows.com that a long, layered cut is ideal: “I would probably not do anything too short, not do anything too wide, and have some fringing and soft lines around the face to conceal part of the cheek area and chin.”
She also recommends hair length to be between the bottom of the ear and the top of the shoulder. A side part is another slimming trick to conceal a round face.
What should you avoid? Bobs and short hair will only accentuate the roundness in your face.
If you love pulling your hair back into a ponytail, make sure you tease the crown to give yourself a little lift at the top for a slimming illusion.

I AM PREGNANT FOR THE 4TH TIME, AND EVERYTIME I GOT PREGNANT, I FIND IT VERY EASY TO CUT ALL MY HAIR OFF. I BASICALLY, CUT IF SUPER SHORT, LAST TIME I CUT INTO A BOYISH HAIRCUT. MY HUSBAND WAS CRAZY FOR IT, HE LOVED IT. HE FOUND ME EVEN MORE SEXY.
SHORT IS TRULY WHEN YOU GET PREGNANT AND AFTER THE BABY IS BORN, BECAUSE U WILL NOT HAVE TIME TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR HAIR. NOW WITH 4 BABIES, I WILL NOT HAVE A MINUTE FREE. SO I WILL KEEP MY HAIR SUPER SHORT… I GUESS I GOT REALLY HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS AND I ADVISE ANY WOMEN THAT IS PREGNANT: CUT YOUR HAIR SHORT, YOU WILL LOSE IT ANYWAYS…
probably a good idea to save time and make things simple. but sweety, not every woman loses their hair if they know how to take care of it.
This is my first baby, and I have had many different people tell me many different things. I am hoping I won’t lose my hair…I’m in love with my hair and before I got pregnant I kept it fresh-ALWAYS! But now…I am finally into my second trimester (thank goodness!) and the first one left me a little BLAH. After the morning/all-day sickness…I just didn’t feel like getting ready or anything. I found a very simple solution: my hair is about 1 inch above my shoulders and I twist each side beginning at my bang line..quite tightly, but not snug enough to pull out hair, and continue to twist around and meet in the back…I either do a cute bun or just pin the rest up messily and then accent with cute clips. It takes less than five minutes and looks elegant/boho whichever way you want to go.
However, I feel like I need a change especially since I will be pregnant in the summer months…super super hot out…so if anyone has any suggestions on STYLISH cuts thats are below the jaw line..please post!
My hairdresser ALWAYS use to tell me that if I ever got pregnant to NOT cut my hair short. I am SO glad I listened to her! I love how my long hair looks while being pregnant. I feel like people don’t notice my weight gain as much.
I’m pregnant with my 2nd child, I always use to wear pixie cuts, I use to LOVE them…until I got in my second Trimenster, with the first baby…bad bad bad idea…after the first pregnancy I never cut my hair short again…that’s how bad it was, this pregnancy…NO WAY! I don’t care how hot or uncomfortable I am…I want to look hot this go around..
I’m 38 weeks pregnant with my second child and have a 21 month old toddler. I’ve always had really long thick wavy hair that tends to go curly/frizzy. Anyway I’ve always been envious oh women who’s had really short cropped hair and have decided to take the plunge this time while I’m pregnant and on maternity leave. I figured if it doesn’t suit me it will grow out anyway.
So I told the hairdresser to give me a very short pixie cut that doesn’t need for me to blow dry or put any products on. I want a wash n wear cut as I’ve never been into styling my hair, have always had it in a bun or ponytail. Lo and behold it’s the best hairstyle I’ve ever had and I got a lot of positive comments from it despite my very big belly and extra kilos I’ve put on! It’s even kept the style after I wash it and when I wakeup in the morning. It’s very trendy and I can style it in a feminine way despite it’s shortness. I love it so much I’m considering keeping the style for quite a while.
I HATE it when pregnant women cut all their hair off. Really, how hard is it to wash it and pull it back? I think some women look great with short hair, and that is fine. But my hair has never looked better then when I am pregnant! I never lost my hair, I guess if you take care of yourself then you won’t have problems.
My hair has never looked better than now. it has so much body and it never gets too oily or too dry. i LOVE having long hair now that im pregnant, it actually seems easier to manage simply because i can skip out on washing it for a day and it still looks good. plus theres enough to pull back in a pony tail with out it bothering my face while im busy doing something that seems so hard now that a have a big belly, like doing laundry or painting my toenails! i actually lose less hair now than i did before! so if you feel like having a long layered look then go for it! please dont cut your hair most regret it!
I THINK EVERY WOMAN SHOULD BE A MOTHER BE COUSE THIS IDENTIY IS FIRST
Am in my second trimenster now my hair is strong ilike it back
For women reading this in the future, I just had to comment on the repeated references above: the women who commented they will lose the hair anyways are not talking about losing their hair because they failed to take care of it or themselves. Due to hormone changes, several weeks to months after the baby is delivered the hair falls out.
I just wanted to say that I ALWAYS take care of my hair. Super healthy, i dont use products i don’t blow dry to straighten, and 3 months post baby it falls out in CHUNKS! it’s a hormone thing like mentioned above. My hair is super super thick and even thicker during pregnancy. I LOVED having long hair during pregnancies, made me feel so sexy. But it’s also a pain. Always had it back, took hours to dry. This time around, my 3rd, I have short hair. Not sure I will go shorter to outweigh the weight gain, but I’m finding short being more manageable as in it’s not too hot easier to dry etc.
I have very long hair and never have lost hair matter fact if I did I could afford to lose some anyways. It hink long hair is beautiful my husband hates short hair… But every pregnancy is different and it is all how you feel.
Well iam pregant with my 3rd child and my hair has grown longer pass my bra straps and its breaking off and growing even longer and i have now clue what to do with it iam tried of wearing it in a pony tail cuz that breaks it off even worse and heck no iam not cutting it never in my life so please someone help me or email me some good tips please thanks.
well i am 20 weeks pregant and i was woundering can i still color my hair
I have short hair already and just want to say to those women claiming that it is pretty much lazy to cut it. Or that people dont know how to take care of their hair are just crazy. Sorry ladies, but I am 16 weeks pregnant with my first child and I am considering cutting my hair again. I miss my long beautiful hair yes. But living in Kansas we had over 104 degree weather literally all summer last year. I am going to be smart about it. You can still take care of your hair and be beautiful regardless of the length. It is not a matter of someone not being clean or not being able to take care of themselves. If you think that, maybe you need to take a few classes on hygiene, as well as, styling. I know for a fact after cutting my hair from the middle of my back to around my earlobes, that styling and hygiene are a must with short hair. Stop trying to be mean and scare people out of what you think is right or wrong. Give your experiences not your judgements. Trust in your hair stylist.
