Best nail polish colors for pregnant moms
September 10, 2012
Love new nail polish shades? We have done a completely unscientific study to find out the best nail polish shade for each stage of pregnancy. From first trimester nudes to the second trimester “status nail” and the third trimester gender specific nail polish, check out our fave nail polish shades.
For your first trimester, you may want to consider a chic, yet sophisticated nude shade that doesn’t draw too much attention to your itty-bitty bump. One great shade (that is guaranteed not to show chips through morning sickness craziness) is Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure in Shall We Dance Sheer. This pale pink shade is classic and flattering on all skin tones. If you are ignoring the old rule of waiting until your second trimester to share the news, you consider a bright coral or cheerful purple, such as the Sally Hansen “Cherry, Cherry, Bang, Bang” shade to express your excitement for the news.
During your second trimester, you can have fun flaunting your bump and your nails by painting your nails two different colors on alternating nails, like pregnant Camila Alves. (pictured, left) You can also have fun blinging out your nails with the cool Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips. These strips come in fun prints and shades – and are dry instantly! How cool is that?
For the second or third trimester you can also consider painting your nails pink or blue to represent the sex of your baby. This would be a fun way to share the news to friends and family! You could also just paint one nail, called a “status nail” either pink or blue. For pink, check out the Essie Lovie Dovie ($8) shade and for blue, check out the Essie Go Overboard shade. One great thing about Essie nail polishes is that they are DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde free.
