I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but once your baby arrives you are going to be spending a lot more time in the laundry room. Take advantage of your nesting instinct to get your laundry room organized.

Here is how to get started:

1. Start babyproofing now by storing bleach and laundry detergent on shelves or cabinets above the washer and dryer.

2. If space is tight and you buy in bulk, store the larger containers in the garage or in another room and keep a smaller container in the laundry room.

3. Trust me, you would much rather be cuddling your baby than sorting laundry. Keep your clothes sorted from baby’s clothes by using separate hampers or a 3-bin laundry sorter (pictured).

4. Hang wire shelving on the wall which doubles as a place to store supplies and a place to hang your delicate clothes.

5. You thought it was hard to keep track of your socks? Wait until to you have baby’s tiny socks to keep matched up. Keep a basket in your laundry room for stray socks that are looking for their match.

6. Are you using cloth diapers? Kudos to you for being environmentally conscious! Click here for tips on laundering cloth diapers.
