Maternity fashion tips for looking glam during the holidays
November 10, 2011
Glam up your baby bump this holiday season by embracing your pregnancy curves and wearing clothes that flatter your body type. Not sure where to start? Blanqi founders Sabina Melarti and Valerie Darragh share with us maternity fashion tips for looking your best when pregnant during the holidays.
“Don’t be overwhelmed with the thought of having to go to holiday parties pregnant,” say the Blanqi girls, Valerie and Sabina. “You may have to pass on the champagne, but this is your chance to look glam and flaunt that bump.”
If you are in the early stages of pregnancy and not quite ready to share the baby news, they suggest flowing dresses to disguise your belly. “If you are newly pregnant and your curves are more belly than bump, we are loving kaftan dresses,” they suggest. “Haven’t announced the big news yet? Find one with a fab print or embellishment to distract other’s eyes away from any discreet bulges.”
In your second and third trimesters, have fun showing off your baby bump! “This is the time to show off your new curves. We love the streamlined look of a long-sleeve mini dress paired with tights,” the Blanqi girls recommend. “Sometimes showing less is more. Pair it with the long length Body Styler to smooth and secure you in all the right places.” Pictured is the Lace Trim Maternity Dress from A Pea in the Pod.
Look for dresses with fun embellishments, like sparkly dresses, flirty ruffles or a sexy one-shoulder design. Pair it with heels or wedges. “Who says you can’t wear boots to a cocktail party? Try a chic wedge boot for stability and comfort,” the Blanqi girls suggest. “An added bonus, the extra height elongates your silhouette.”
It’s hard to beat the classic look of a little black dress. “If you’re more of a LBD kind of girl, add a little pizzazz with a supersized jewel tone cuff or decadently colored shoe – unexpectedly sexy,” they say.
Have an upcoming holiday party, yet no time to shop? “Snatch one of your hubby’s tuxedo shirts, grab a satin ribbon and tie a bow around the collar of the shirt for a feminine touch,” the Blanqi girls suggest.

The final touches to your holiday look is finding the perfect accessories. “Once you find the perfect dress, accessorize with investment pieces that will last after baby,” they suggest. Many pregnant women have swelling in their hands, and the Blanqi girls have a great fashion tip when you can no longer wear your rings. “When your fingers start swelling, rings get tight and uncomfortable. Place your rings onto a dangly baroque medal necklace for stylized safekeeping,” they suggest.
