When shopping for maternity clothes, it helps to have a game plan in order to avoid overspending or buying clothes you don’t need. Follow our maternity clothes shopping guide to help you have a stylish 9 months.

Don’t buy all your maternity clothes all at once as soon as you have a positive maternity test. It is best to buy them as you need them so you know what will fit best on your pregnancy body.

Do buy maternity clothes as soon as your pre-pregnancy clothes start feeling tight and uncomfortable. Wearing clothes that are made to fit your pregnancy curves are much more flattering than squeezing into too-tight clothes.

Don’t buy oversized clothes because it will only make you look big, not pregnancy. Look for clothes that are adjustable and will grow with you, such as features like ties and ruching.

Do splurge on well-made basics that you know you will get a lot of wear out of. If you will be having more kids, it will make even more sense to splurge on well-made basics that will last.

Don’t splurge on trendy clothes you can only wear this season. Shop discount stores for that maternity ruffle top you know you probably won’t be wearing next time you are pregnant.
