How to prepare your breastfeeding wardrobe
May 22, 2011
If you plan on breastfeeding your baby, it is best to plan now so you are ready once baby makes his or her arrival. Planning your breastfeeding wardrobe is all about buying the basics that will help you easily nurse your baby at home, at night and when out and about in public.
Nursing bra: A nursing bra gives you the support you need, while allowing easy access for breastfeeding. These bras feature hooks or snaps that allow the cup to fall down so baby can easily nurse. Some bras have a criss-cross design that you pull over, or a tube top like bra that you simple pull down.
Nursing tank: A nursing tank, such as the Glamourmom nursing tank, is a nursing bra and tank top all in one. You can wear the nursing tank alone or layered under a cardigan. The Glamourmom Nursing Bra Tummy Control Tank ($54, Glamourmom.com) is a nursing bra tank – but also features an inner support layer that trims the tummy! Love!
Nursing nightgown: Look for a soft, yet supportive nursing bra for nighttime wear, as well as a nightgown that features a criss-cross design that pulls over for easy nursing at night.
Nursing tops: Today’s nursing tops are as stylish as regular tops! They feature panels that discreetly allow you to nurse baby – and they look like a trendy top! Check out Milkstars.com or Motherhood Maternity.
You don’t only have to buy “nursing” tops and tanks, however. Tube tubs layered under a cardigan or button-front top or a button-front top are both great choices for your breastfeeding wardrobe. Some women like using a nursing shawl, which is a blanket that keeps you covered when nursing – especially when out in public.
