Are you getting a push present?
June 25, 2007
Many moms, especially celebrity moms, plan to walk out of the hospital with more than just their healthy baby — they expect a “push present.”
What is a push present, you ask? “A push present is supposed to be something you wear forever, as a token of your child,” says new mom Tori Spelling, who received a $1500 Balenciaga Giant Arena Bag from her hubby Dean McDermott. “I’ll be wearing Balenciaga forever!” she tells Us Weekly.
Whereas most moms receive modest gifts (think flowers or a day at the spa… or a pat on the back) for pushing their baby out into the world, more and more celebrity moms are getting jewelry, or “baby bling.”
For instance, Sarah Jessica Parker received a $6000 charm bracelet after the birth of James from husband Matthew Broderick. Pierce Brosnan reportedly gave his wife three gold and diamond bracelets following the birth of baby Paris. Curb Your Enthusiasm star Cheryl Hines was seen wearing baby band rings (shown above), priced from $500 to $5500, after the birth of her daughter.
What do you think of push presents? Is this a nice way to commemorate the birth of your child, or just an excuse for a new piece of jewelry? Should dads have to pony up for a gift?
