Get Maya Rudolph’s slimming new mom style
January 12, 2012
Up All Night star Maya Rudolph looked great just six months after giving birth to her third child, a boy named Jack, in July. The Saturday Night Live alum wore this chic black and white dress at the NBC Universal All-Star Party last week.
Rudolph pairs a black shift dress with a white hem with a ruffled vest and black platform heels. How can you copy her slimming new mom style?
Check out: The postpartum wardrobe guide for new moms >>
A black shift dress is flattering because it conceals your new-mom belly, while drawing attention to your fabulous legs. Apply some self-tanning lotion a couple of days before for an extra slimming effect! The white hem is also an added bonus because it draws attention away from your midsection.
Slimming fashion tricks for new moms >>
V necklines, like the one Rudolph Is wearing, slims your face, unlike turtlenecks or scoop neck tops. A chic short vest that hits slightly below your waist also helps to conceal your midsection. Finish off your look with leg-lengthening heels and you will look like one hot mama!
To copy Rudolph’s red carpet style, check out the Pinstripe sheath dress ($59.95) from Gap.

Alyssa Milano shares her must-have baby items
October 18, 2011
As your due date and baby shower approaches, you may be wondering what baby and new-mom items you should register for and what items you will need before baby is born. New mom Alyssa Milano, who gave birth to Milo five weeks ago, shares some of her favorite baby items on her website.
Milano says she makes her own wipes so Milo is not getting unnecessary chemicals (and even includes the recipe!), but says she loves the Prince Lionheart Warmies Wipes Warmer. [My kids didn’t mind either way if the wipes were warmed or not and I ended up not using this]
She loves the WubbaNup Pacifiers saying “no nipple confusion” and the stuffed animal “gives the baby something cozy to hold on to.”
Gripe Water keeps the gas away and is all-natural, says Alyssa, and the Angel Baby Bottom Balm is perfect for preventing diaper rash, while the Triple Paste is perfect when baby already has a rash.
The Fisher Price Tub has a hammock to keep baby comfortable and safe, says Alyssa, and afterwards she loves to wrap Milo in Swaddle blankets. She keeps Milo close to her in the Sleepy Wrap Baby Sling and uses the Arm’s Reach Co-Sleeper as a bassinet, wrapped in a Swaddle Pod at night to keep him cozy.
Baby Aquaphor is used for “everything “ including for mommy’s dry lips. Alyssa uses Angel Mama Nipple Butter and Mother’s Milk Tea. “I brew a pitcher of this tea, put on ice and keep in the refrigerator…and sip throughout the day,” she writes.
Lastly, Alyssa says she keeps track of her schedule by using The Baby Connect iPhone app. “Helps me keep track of feedings, diaper changes, sleep times, pumping, plus other caregivers can log into account too!” she says.

How to prepare your fall postpartum wardrobe

Preparing your fall postpartum wardrobe
October 4, 2011
If you are having a fall or winter baby, you may be wondering what you will wear after baby is born. It often takes most new moms at least nine months to fit back into their pre-pregnancy clothes, so it helps to be prepared with some postpartum clothes that are easy, stylish and flattering.
The maxi dresses you wore throughout your pregnancy can easily be worn after baby is born. The empire-waist cut and flowing material is comfortable and hides your new mom tummy. Transition this dress into fall or winter by pairing with a blazer, cardigan or jacket. Knit dresses can also easily be worn after baby is born. Layer a chic scarf or cardigan over the top to help conceal your midsection.
A cardigan with interesting details, such as the pictured Free People Hemingway Cape Cardigan from Piperlime, is a great layering piece for new moms. Wear it over basic tops or printed tees to keep you warm and to flatter your new curves. A camel-colored cardigan is neutral enough to wear with black and brown.
A long maxi skirt with stretchy a waistband is another great transition piece for new moms. Pair it with a flowing blouse or tunic top and cardigan for a cool bohemian look that is a trendy look for fall.
The Bella Band you wore in your first trimester can now be worn after baby is born to help you transition back into your pre-pregnancy jeans. This stretchy band goes around your waist and smoothes the waistband so you can leave the button of your pre-pregnancy jeans unbuttoned.

The postpartum wardrobe primer for stylish new moms
September 8, 2011
Many women can’t fit into their pre-pregnancy clothes until several months after baby is born and, trust us, you will be tired of your maternity clothes. So what’s a new mom to do? Start priming your postpartum wardrobe now so you are ready to focus your energy on your beautiful baby, not your closet.
After I gave birth to my first child, I came home from the hospital and was in tears because nothing fit me. Yes, I was naïve to think I could fit back into my pre-pregnancy clothes so soon (and I’m sure hormones contributed to my weepy state) but the last thing I wanted to do was go clothes shopping with a newborn. Putting back on my maternity clothes, however, definitely did not help my weepy state! Pick up these postpartum wardrobe essentials before baby is born for a happier state of mind after baby is born.
Casual dresses are a great choice for new moms. Avoid belted dresses, but pick up pretty empire-waist or maxi dresses that will disguise your new-mom belly. Look for pretty colors and feminine prints.
Skirts with a stretchy waistband (OldNavy.com has some great fold over skirts made of jersey material) to pair with chiffon tops or colorful boho-style top. You can also layer a solid tee with a cute cardigan or scarf for a stylish look that also conceals your midsection.
Remember that Bella Band you wore during those first months of pregnancy? Pull it out again to help you transition back into your pre-pregnancy jeans. Buy tops that have a gathered hem or are loose fitting around your midsection for a flattering new-mom look.
If you plan on breastfeeding, pick up stylish nursing tops to make feeding baby a breeze. Glamourmom.com or boobdesign.com have tops that feature designs that make breastfeeding easy and convenient.

Stylish delivery: Designer hospital gowns
February 27, 2011
Are you looking for a way to make childbirth and delivery in the hospital a little more stylish and comfortable? Chuck the standard issue hospital gowns for these colorful, comfortable and functional designer hospital gowns.
Whether you are looking for the perfect gift for a mommy-to-be or are preparing for your own delivery, these Ella Gownie Delivery/Maternity hospital gowns are a great pick.
These 100% cotton gowns feature simple and easy snaps down the back to give your total coverage (finally!), as well as off-shoulder front snaps for breastfeeding and exams. They come in 3 sizes to ensure a great fit and are hospital staff approved.
I never thought I would say a hospital gown was stylish, but these are! They come in a variety of colorful prints, including paisley, retro circles and the pictured Ella hospital gown.
The Ella Gown ($56) is the same one that Bethenny Frankel from the Real Housewives of New York City wore!
Dear Johnnies is another line of designer hospital gowns. They feature a great selection of beautiful designs and colors. I love their Delivery Set ($152), which includes a designer hospital gown, matching robe and coordinating swaddle blanket for baby. Perfect for those photos!
