Pregnant women are known for doing crazy things like wearing a short sleeved top in the middle of winter. If you haven’t discovered this already, your pregnant body keeps you feeling warm which can make winter and fall dressing a challenge.

Keep these tips in mind when buying fall and winter maternity clothes:

1. Depending on how cold your region is, consider buying only a light-weight jacket to layer over long-sleeve shirts. You may find that you don’t need a big, bulky coat.
2. If you do need a thicker coat, ask friends if they have any maternity coats to loan you or check out consignment stores. Click here to find out how to find stylish secondhand maternity clothes.
3. The best winter top? A 3/4 sleeved top that will keep you warm without overheating you.
4. Buy a long-sleeved tunic top: you can pair this with leggings when it is crisp outside or wear it with jeans when the deep-freeze sets in.
5. Consider buying a wrap or shawl to drape around you and your bump. They look stylish, will keep you warm, yet can be easily removed when you feel too warm.
6. A trench coat (pictured, Belly Dance Maternity) is a great grow-with-you piece.
