Do you really need maternity hose?
October 27, 2007

Whether it is your first pregnancy or your fourth, your maternity needs can change. You want to buy apparel that keeps you feeling comfortable and looking your best, but you don’t want to buy unnecessary things. For instance, do you really need to buy maternity hose?
If you have had varicose veins or spider veins with your previous pregnancies or if they run in your family (ask your mother if she got them when she was pregnant) if might be a good idea to buy maternity hose as a preventative measure.
You may also want to consider maternity hose if you have a job that requires you to stand a good portion of the day. Maternity hose, such as Ames Walker graduated compression hosiery, is designed to improve sluggish circulation in your legs as a result of pregnancy. Standing a lot can make you more susceptible to varicose veins, as well as edema.
If you decide you do need them, make sure you put them on first thing in the morning and take them off at night for maximum benefit.
Got something to say?
