Do you need maternity underwear?
October 2, 2007

As your belly grows it is an inevitable fact that your pre-pregnancy panties won’t fit (or at least won’t fit comfortably). Once they start digging into your sides it is time for new underwear. Do you need specific “maternity” underwear or can you just get by with regular underwear in a larger size?
Maternity underwear, such as the pictured Seamless Logo Bikini underwear from Mimi Maternity, have nice features such as an underbelly cut. The stretchy nylon material ensures comfort as your belly grows. You can also buy maternity thong underwear with the same underbelly design.
Those features are nice, however you can be just as comfortable buying regular underwear in a larger size. You can usually get 3 pairs of regular underwear for what you would pay for one nice pair of maternity panties. Look for low-rise underwear to fit nicely under your belly made of a stretchy material. It is a good idea to buy them two sizes larger than your normal size.
