Third trimester maternity clothes shopping do’s and don’ts

March 31, 2009

You are at the homestretch! How can you stay looking and feeling great when you can’t even see your feet? Follow our tips to help you look great as you cross the finish line.

Do buy long empire-waist maxi dresses that can be worn no and after baby is born.

Don’t wear oversized clothes. They will only make you look bigger than you really are. Unless you are lounging around the house, stay away from your husband’s closet!

Do wear clothes that gently hug your bump. Shirts with a gathered hem below your below or a colorful wrap dress will accentuate your curves.

Don’t worry if your feet don’t fit into your shoes. Many women find their foot size increases 1/2 size during pregnancy! Most of it is associated with swelling, however some of it is caused by joint laxity which causes your feet to spread. Wear flip-flops or buy an inexpensive pair of shoes until you know how your feet will respond.

Second trimester clothes shopping Do’s and Don’ts

March 31, 2009

Congratulations! You made it to the second trimester, also known as the “honeymoon phase” of pregnancy. Most women are past the morning sickness phase, actually look pregnant instead of just bloated and can really enjoy this special time in their lives. Check out our do’s and don’ts to stay stylish during this fun time.

Do wear bump-hugging clothes to show off your beautiful new curves.

Don’t try to squeeze yourself into non-maternity clothes that no longer fit. Not only will you be uncomfortable, but wearing too small clothes will actually make you look bigger.

Do maintain your natural sense of style. If you loved Boho tops and jeans before you were pregnant, you can still wear those same hip clothes (check out Gap maternity). If you wore clothes that were tailored, you can continue to wear maternity clothes that give you a polished look (check out IsabellaOliver.com for some great tailored looks).

Don’t wait to buy maternity clothes. If your regular clothes are fitting tight, now is the time to buy clothes that are designed to fit your new curves. Look for tie-backs, side-shirring — adjustable clothes — that will ensure they fit throughout your pregnancy.

Maternity clothes on a budget: Versatile options

March 30, 2009

When shopping for pregnancy clothes on a budget, think of which clothes can be versatile enough to wear to both work and play. Here are tips on shopping for versatile maternity clothes.

Clothes that can be dressed up or down: Look for cute dresses that can be dressed up with strappy heels and a cardigan and can just as easily be dressed down with sandals.

Cardigans: A light weight cardigan is the perfect accessory for the spring. Wear it over a dress or paired with black pants and a top for work or wear it with jeans or capri pants on your day off.

Tops: It is hard to go wrong with solid-colored basics, like solid v-neck tops. They can be worn with everything from pants to skirts and jeans and can be accessorized to fit your needs.

Pants: Khaki or black maternity pants are a great investment. Pair them with a wrap top and heels for work or sandals/flip-flops and a cotton tank for casual days.
