Celebrity cravings

April 30, 2008

“I had this thing for Entenmann’s chocolate donuts. Somewhere during my pregnancy I gained something like nine pounds in two weeks and my doctor was like, ‘You know what it might be? Are you drinking a lot of juice?’ I was like, ‘Yeah. That must be it.’ I was eating like a box a day of Entenmann’s donuts.”

Simplify your wardrobe

April 29, 2008

gwyneth-paltrow2.JPG
Gwyneth Paltrow, 35, tells Vogue magazine that she has found that the secret to being a happy parent involves simplifying everything in your life- including your wardrobe. The busy actress is busy juggling quite a few balls in the air: promoting her new movie, Iron Man, her cooking show, her Estee Lauder modeling contract, being a rockstar wife to Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and (most importantly) being a mom to 4-year-old Apple and 2-year-old Moses.

“I keep everything very simple. I think the thing that drives most working mothers crazy is this idea that they can’t do everything: ‘I don’t know what to wear. I don’t know what to cook. I can’t work and do this and that and the other.’ But I find that as long as you’re not depressed, if you simplify everything, you can do anything,” Paltrow says. “If you’re going to cook dinner, so that you and your husband can invest in each other, don’t make duck á l’orange. Learn six recipes that are simple, easy, that you can do when you put the kids to bed.”

How does Paltrow simplify her wardrobe? “I find that it is very helpful to have a sort of mother uniform. Like, I say, OK, this winter I’m going to wear mini dresses and tights and this pair of jeans and these two coats. Done. I wear either these Lanvin boots every day or gray Chloé ankle boots. It’s like I want to eliminate all of the fuss. I don’t have time anymore to sit there and be like, What should I wear? What goes with this?”

Do you have a pregnancy uniform or mother uniform? Don’t worry about having a designer mother uniform (we don’t all have Gwyneth’s loaded bank account), but it should consist of something that looks stylish, makes you feel great and is comfortable. For me, my pregnancy uniform consisted of maternity jeans and a cute top (first and second trimester) and a jersey skirt with a stretchy waistband and bump-hugging tank for the 3rd trimester.

Rainy day fashions

April 29, 2008

trench-coat.jpg
Enjoy the rainy days of Spring by dressing your bump in a stylish trench coat. A staple in Angelina Jolie’s maternity wardrobe, a trench coat looks classic and can be worn throughout pregnancy and beyond.

This double breasted trench coat from Motherhood Maternity features chunky buttons, a stylish cut and a flattering length. The best part is the price: $29.99.

Your trench coat may be a neutral color, but you can add a punch of color to your rainy day wardrobe with some colorful rain boots. The Chooka Signature Printed Rain Boot ($59.95) from Nordstrom feature a removable insole and an adjustable buckle. These are so darn cute, I may buy them to wear the 3 days a year that we actually get rain in Arizona!

Early pregnancy style: Amy Poehler

April 28, 2008

amy-poehler.JPG
Saturday Night Live regular Amy Poehler has recently confirmed that she and her husband, actor Will Arnett, are expecting a baby in late fall.

Even though the news has now been made public, the 36-year-old actress was not quite ready to share the news at the premiere of her movie, Baby Mama, last weekend.

Poehler wore a tiered dress which is a great way to hide a small bump without screaming “I’m hiding my pregnancy” like a voluminous dress (Angelina Jolie) or empire-waist dress can. The jeweled neckline also draws attention up towards the face and away from the belly.

The Eternal Maternal Bellycast kit ($46) from Due Maternity includes everything you need to make a plaster cast of your pregnant belly.
