Does face shape determine the sex of your baby?

January 31, 2008

kali-rocha.jpg
Grey’s Anatomy actress Kali Rocha recently revealed at the movie premiere of Over My Dead Body that she is three months pregnant. “I’m pregnant!” she confessed to TV Guide, as she patted her tiny bump.

When asked if she knew the sex of the baby, Rocha had this interesting theory: “I keep hearing this theory that if you look very rounded in the face and you [get sick] a lot, it’s a girl. I have a round face all the time, but I didn’t [get sick] once. The theory also says that if you are feeling good and have a square jaw, it’s a boy. So I have no idea. Maybe I have a hermaphrodite.”

Do you think this theory holds true? I know with both of my pregnancies I had a round face and I had two boys. Maybe it was just me?

Steal her sexy look: Jennifer Lopez

January 31, 2008

Looking sexy and feeling sexy while you are pregnant does not almost mean showing a lot of skin or wearing form-fitting clothing. Mom-to-be Jennifer Lopez showed us that looking sexy requires the right attitude and thigh-high black suede boots.

Lopez, who is due at any moment, kept her look fresh and sexy by wearing a short flowing dress, black hat and thigh-high Christian Louboutin boots at a MTV appearance a couple of months ago. Her legs are the focus of this sexy look!

Copy Lopez’s by wearing a flowing mini trapeze dress, such as the Ruched Printed trapeze Mini Dress ($34.95) from Chinatowner.com. Pair this with a pair of thigh-high suede boots, a funky black hat and you are ready to hit the town!

Staying stylish at work on a budget

January 30, 2008

When buying maternity clothes for work, consider buying pieces that are versatile and can be dressed up or down. To stay within your budget, buy a few basic pieces that can be mixed and matched to create new looks.

Maternity fashion guru Liz Lange offers this tip to Modern Mom: “Work essentials have to be really versatile during your pregnancy. It’s best to stick with the true basics: a black suit with a fitted blazer and slim underbelly trousers or a skirt depending on your taste, a white stretchy button down, a sweater set that can be dressed up for night and a little black dress for which you can do the same.”

Feel-good-fast tips for new moms

January 30, 2008

Caring for a newborn can be all-consuming to the point where caring for yourself falls low on your to-do list. I know that some days it is hard to find the time to brush your teeth, but looking good does not have to be a time-consuming process. Check out these fast beauty tips for new moms and even if your baby doesn’t notice, your man sure will!

Feel-Good-Fast tips for new moms:

1. If your post-baby body has you feeling blue, wear black! This is the new-mom color of choice for its amazing slimming properties. Actress Salma Hayek, mother to 4-month-old Valentina, looks great in her black top and white skirt, however a black skirt would be more hip-slimming for most mamas.

2. If you have dark circles from all the sleepless nights and early mornings, invest in some good concealer and a hot pair of sunglasses. Voila!

3. No time to fix your hair? A low ponytail will give you a chic and fuss-free look.

4. Many celebrities, including Gwyneth Paltrow, swear by wearing body shaping girdles to smooth out post-baby bulges.

5. Do not underestimate the power of lipstick: Slip on a colorful hue that will brighten your face.

North South Diaper Bag from Nest follows the trendy un-diaper bag formula: it has all the practical features of a diaper bag, but doesn’t look like one.

The PETA-friendly faux-leather has hip golden metal hardware that makes this bag perfect for a playdate or a date night. The bag is chock full of practical features included 26 pockets to help keep you organized, a padded changing pad that stores in the bottom zip compartment and metal feet to keep it standing upright.

Forget about fumbling with snaps or a zipper, this bag has magnets sewn into the top seam so the bag stays closed and your wallet stays hidden. The versatile shoulder straps can also be adjusted to fit on your stroller.

I am happy to announce that we have another fashion icon that is pregnant: Gwen Stefani! The singer/clothes designer is expecting her second child with rocker hubby Gavin Rossdale. They are already parents to their son, 1 1/2 year-old Kingston.

Stefani, 38, is seen here last week wearing a long-sleeve hooded gray sweater dress. The dress has a forgiving cut to conceal her small baby bump. She pairs her sweater dress with black leggings and knee-high black boots with a buckled ankle-strap.

Copy Stefani’s look in these Steven by Steve Madden ‘Cassey’ Tall Boot from Nordstrom. These buckled boots, available in black or brown, are the perfect funky and cool accessory.

“You go, ‘What’s happening?’ You definitely have to go with the flow. You have to surrender, but it’s a shock to the system. I feel really blessed. I feel really lucky. This is the best time ever…It’s the best year.”

-Actress Jessica Alba, on her new pregnancy body, as told on NBC’s Today Show

How did you feel when you really started to show? I remember just being in awe as my body totally transformed. It can be scary….you wonder and hope that you body will go back to the way it was. You know what? You don’t even notice those little areas that aren’t exactly the same as they were pre-baby because you are too busy staring at your beautiful bundle.
