Baby briefcase
August 25, 2007

The Baby Briefcase is perfect for all those moms who have all of their baby’s paperwork crammed into a small file cabinet or in a box under their bed. If you are pregnant, you may not even realize how much new paperwork goes along with a new baby. Between the birth certificate, insurance forms, social security forms and baby furniture receipts/warranties, it can get a bit overwhelming.
Of course, you can always use a regular file to store your baby’s papers—but how cute is the Baby Briefcase? For $29.95, it includes a plastic carrying case with a snap closure, 15 letter-size plastic folders in fun, pastel colors, plenty of preprinted and customizable folder categories and even a thank you note tracker. The framed photo pocket on the outside is a cute added touch.

Liz Lange talks workout wear
August 25, 2007
We all know how important it is to stay active and fit when you are pregnant. If you are feeling less than motivated, maybe all you need is some new workout wear. What should you look for when buying maternity workout attire?
To stay cool and fresh, look for pants and tops with a breathable and light-weight fabric. Many of today’s active attire is made with a stretchy dry-weave fabric that is perfect for moms-to-be. Make sure you wear a sports bra or look for tanks with a built-in-bra for added support.

Baby gear to-go
August 24, 2007

“We roll like J-Lo. When you have kids, you have 10 times the amount of luggage. Where you used to have one bag, you now have a bag for the baby’s clothes, the stroller, the car seat, the playpen. Just to get out the door, you have 10 bags. It’s nuts.”
Actor Matt Damon
It is true that once you have kids you have a lot of gear to keep track of. Don’t let that stop you from taking your baby out on a trip. She will love seeing and experiencing new things. In fact, traveling with an infant can be easier than with a toddler because babies are easily transportable.
To prepare for your trip, click here to find out all you need to know to fly with baby.
For shorter trips, all you need is a well-stocked diaper bag. Bring the essentials such as a wipes, diapers, pacifier, bottle, toy and change of clothes.

Breastfeeding: What to wear
August 24, 2007
Question: What clothes should I wear that will allow me to easily breastfeed my baby? I am on a budget and I don’t want to spend money on nursing tanks or tops that I can only wear for a specific period of time.
Breastfeeding your baby will be much more comfortable for you and for you tot if you are wearing clothing that will allow easy access for nursing. There is no reason to buy specially designed “nursing tops” when there are plenty of pieces in your current wardrobe that will do just fine. That said, there are also some fashionable nursing tops (check out Babystyle and Glamourmom.com, for example) that you can wear long after you are finished breastfeeding. One more thing—you can get by without buying “nursing tops,” but I highly recommend buying a couple of nursing bras.

Here are ideas for breastfeeding-friendly clothes:
1. Button Down top: You won’t feel overexposed while nursing if you wear a button-down top. Unbutton only what you need for your baby to gain access to your breast. Pictured is a striped woven top from Forever 21.
2. Criss-Cross top: This top will eliminate having to pull your shirt up, thus exposing your entire back. You can easily pull this top over for easy nursing access.
3. Tube top: You simply pull one side down for easy nursing. As far as a bra, avoid a strapless bra with an underwire and opt for a soft, strapless bra that can easily be pushed down.
4. Layer: If wearing a tube top feels too bare for you (or if it is in the winter), layer a long-sleeved button-down shirt over a tube for a stylish look that is breastfeeding-friendly.

Cup runneth over and more: bra issues solved
August 23, 2007

As your pregnancy progresses, you belly won’t be the only part of your body that gets bigger. Your breasts also increase about one cup size (or more!) requiring a comfortable and supportive maternity bra (pictured, Bella Materna nursing bra from Blossom Maternity).
Have you purchased a maternity bra only to find it not fitting correctly? Here are some common fit issues and how to fix them.
You need a larger cup size if: you fall out of the top or the bottom of your bra, the straps are too tight or the front of your bra sticks out instead of staying flat against your body.
Quick fix: Loosen the straps, however if the problem remains go up a cup size.
You need a smaller cup size if: your bra gapes open or the straps are constantly falling down.
Quick fix: Tighten the straps, however if the problem remains go up a cup size.

Happi Tummi equals happy baby
August 23, 2007

You have fed your baby, checked her diaper and tried to rock her, yet she is still crying. Trying to calm a fussy or colicky baby can be enough to put even the most experienced mother in tears. A new product called Happi Tummi may help to relieve the gas discomfort that causes colic and fussiness in babies. After all, a happy tummy equals a happy baby.
Happy Tummi consists of a reusable pouch of therapeutic herbs that swaddles your infant’s abdomen to provide calming relief. You microwave the herbal pouch for 20 seconds to enhance the therapeutic properties. You are never too young for a little spa treatment, right?
Nanette Meneses, founder of the company responsible for Happi Tummi, says this product was created after her challenge with dealing with a colicky baby. “Not only does the Happi Tummi™ work to relieve infant stomach discomfort, but it also can be used as a preventative measure. I found that if I placed the HappiTummi™ on my baby prior to feeding, it would eliminate the gas, colic or pain that would normally occur. It is a must-have for any new mother and truly takes the guess work out of soothing a fussy infant.”
Available in blue, pink or green, pick up a Happi Tummi online for $24.95 at happytummi.com.

Take your look from day to night
August 23, 2007

Taking your maternity look from casual workday to dressy date night is easy if you are prepared. Follow these steps and be prepared to blow your man away!
1. Wear you LBD (little black dress) to work, but keep it more casual for daytime with flats and simple accessories. Pictured is the Isabella Oliver Wrap Dress.
2. To dress it up, add this season’s hottest accessory: patent leather! Swap your casual bag with a patent leather bag paired with black patent leather heels (you won’t be doing much walking on this date, right?).
3. Pull your hair in a sexy updo to show off your shoulders and neck. Spritz on some perfume for added effect.
4. Leave your jacket at the office, and throw a feminine wrap over your shoulders.
5. Finish off your sexy evening look by creathing smokey eyes with black eyeliner and dabbing on some lip gloss. Yummy mummy, indeed!
